Your roof is one of the most important aspects of your home. Thats why picking the right roofing contractor is so important.

Charleston Indiana New Roof for McDonner

It is not unusual for a new roof to be one of your most significant maintenance investments. This is because your home’s roof will protect you from rain, storms, winds, and even hail. However, over time, damage can occur if it’s not kept up. Keeping your roof in good shape means avoiding leaks, missing shingles, missing tiles, and the growth of mold.

When it’s time to hire a roofing contractor to replace, fix, or maintain your roof, there are a few things you should do to select the best one for the job:

  1. Ask for Referrals:

Friends, family. and neighbors are often your best resources when seeking a roofing contractor. More than likely, someone you know has had roofing work done recently and knows who to call.  Your friends and family can tell you:

    • Did the roofing contractor complete the work on time.
    • Did the roofing contractor stay within their bidding budget.
    • Was the customer satisfied with the work.
  2. Check Their Licenses and Certifications:

Make sure that they are actually licensed and certified to work in your Kentucky or Indiana. With their licenses and certifications in order, you know they are more likely to be trustworthy and dependable. Also verify the roofer has insurance and is bonded.

  3. Evaluate the Bids:

Look at each bid and pick at least two that you like. Don’t necessarily pick the lowest priced bid. Select the bid that covers the most work, has the best timelines, has the most details, and is the most professional. After you pick at least two bids you can move on to the interviewing process.

  4. Hire a Roofing Contractor:

Finally, after reviewing and comparing your finalists, make your selection based on your research and bids. In the end, just make sure the Kentucky Roofing Contractor you choose is established in Kentucky or Indiana and has a record of good service to your community.

Is there anything else you would recommend?

Thanks for the step-by-step on how to find a good roofing contractor. A friend of mine is working on replacing the shingles on her house. She wants different colors to go with the rest of the design. I’ll have to show her this article. Thanks again for sharing.

I like what this article recommends about asking for referrals when looking at getting a new roof. It makes sense that it could be good to ask friends and family as you could get a first-hand opinion on the work they do. It’s something to keep in mind as having an improperly installed roof could be really problematic for the winter season.

Great piece of information! I am a roofing contractor, and the more questions I am asked the more comfortable I become with the customer. I feel like the same steps apply for the roofer as well. The more questions I am asked the more I know the homeowner cares about their home. Two way street! Great info!

Great suggestions to help find the perfect roofing contractor. I would also check out their online presence…do they have a decent website, do they post anything on social media, etc? Also be sure to ask the contractor what all is included in the job and what is excluded so you don’t have any surprises pop up in the middle of the project.

Excellent information! Very important and relevant for home owners who are trying to get their roof replaced or repaired but do not know how to evaluate a roofer to get the best value of their money. A lot of home owners make the mistake of going for the cheapest roofer with disastrous consequences

My sister and her husband recently bought a home with a very old roof and they want to replace it with something that is very high quality and will last for many years. Because of this, they want to find a roofing contractor who they can trust to replace the roof and you make a great point that one of the first things you should do is make sure the roofer is licensed and certified. Also, I think it is very important that they find someone who has liability insurance so that they will not be held responsible if there is an accident or another issue during the replacement process.

I liked your recommendation to ask around for referrals. I think that your family and neighbors can really give you a great idea about who would be best to work on your home and you might be able to see some of their work in person. We’ll be sure to really utilize this resource to look for a contractor.

I agree that asking for referrals is a great idea when you are choosing a roofing contractor. You want to find someone who others can say good things about. You can also find out if they did the job on time and within the price they said they would, like you mentioned.

I like how you said that when hiring a roofing contractor, you should check their references to make sure they’ve been serving clients and providing the kind of work that was requested, consistently. I think that someone with a good reputation is likely to work hard to maintain it while working with you, so you’re more likely to be satisfied with the work they do. My husband and I are needing our roof replaced, because of tree damage. We’ll have to find a roofing installation and repair service in our area that has a reputation of serving the community for many years.

I love what you said about making sure a roofing contractor is actually licensed. I think proper certification is the best way to know how reliable a roofing service is. If I encounter any damages on my own roof, I’ll be sure to hire a reputable service with proper credentials.

Thank you for sharing the advice that when looking for a roofing company you should talk with your family and friends because they will provide honest reviews of the roofing companies they worked with. My husband and I are thinking about getting our roof replaced because it has not been replaced in over 20 years and we are noticing that some of the shingles are getting loose. We will make sure to get referrals from family and friends and then interview the potential contractors to ask about their pricing and see if they will be easy to work with.

Your process to funnel down to one roofing company by completely evaluating each bid and selecting the two best is a great way to get quality service. My wife and I have been thinking about getting roof work done. One thing that we have been thinking is how hard it can be to pick roofing contractors with so many options.

I didn’t realize how important certain licenses and certificates are to roofing contractors. I will have to check and make sure that the next roofing contractor is equipped with those types of things. Thanks for the advice, I will be much more diligent about checking that moving forward.
